At London Vet Specialists our anaesthesia and analgesia service comprises of registered veterinary nurses and rotating interns, led by diplomates of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. The anaesthesia clinician’s role involves:
- Risk assessment and case discussion with other services
- Stabilisation
- Patient assessment
- Provision and monitoring of appropriate sedation and anaesthesia
- Provision of pain management (both during and after anaesthesia)
- Ensuring as stress-free an experience as possible
- Continued post-anaesthesia and critical care
Patient safety and well-being are a big focus for our team. Our anaesthesia clinicians are integral in managing hospital workflow to ensure that each case can receive the appropriate attention. They also ensure that our RVNs and rotating interns are best equipped to care for your pets - this involves continued in-house clinical training and fostering of a good workplace culture allowing for optimal communication. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art anaesthetic machines and monitoring devices that allow us to swiftly identify and address any adverse events.
The anaesthesia team also provides advice and management for chronic pain cases referred through other services in the hospital. This involves pharmacological management as well as interventional procedures, such as steroid epidurals and nerve root injections.
