At London Vet Specialists we believe that cardiac health is paramount for the life of pets. Our commitment lies in delivering comprehensive cardiology services to support the well-being of our patients. Our approach revolves around a bespoke approach to every patient’s needs supported by highly experienced veterinary professionals and top-tier equipment to perform the most advanced diagnostic investigations and treatments.
Investigations
Our cardiology services begin with a detailed consultation followed by comprehensive diagnostic investigations to assess the specific cardiovascular needs of each patient. Thorough investigations are essential in identifying and addressing cardiovascular conditions, allowing us to tailor our approach to each patient's specific needs. This process usually lasts 2 to 3 hours and patients are usually seen on an outpatient basis but in some cases, hospitalisation will be recommended.
Most patients are investigated without sedation (our team ensures the safety and comfort of your patients during all procedures) but travelling to a veterinary hospital can be stressful. Medications such as Trazadone for dogs and Gabapentin for cats can alleviate some of the stress. Please discuss these options with your clients and we are always available to offer further support.
The Team
João Loureiro heads the cardiology department at London Vet Specialists and is currently the only cardiology specialist operating in central London. In close collaboration with the London Vet Specialist referral team, the cardiology service will investigate, diagnose and treat all forms of cardiac disease, providing a bespoke investigation and treatment plan for each patient to deliver excellence in patient and client care.

We utilise a range of diagnostic procedures and tests, including:
Echocardiography:
Advanced echocardiographic studies are conducted to assess the structure and function of the heart, enabling accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plans.
Radiography:
Thoracic radiographs remain a crucial diagnostic tool for the evaluation of the pulmonary changes that may result from cardiac disease. Our diagnostic imaging team and digital radiography suit provide the perfect environment for this to be evaluated.
Electrocardiography (ECG):
We employ state-of-the-art ECG technology to evaluate cardiac electrical activity and identify arrhythmias or conduction abnormalities.
Holter monitoring:
We utilise the most advanced Holter monitoring devices to acquire and interpret the cardiac rhythm over extended periods and away from the hospital environment, providing valuable insights into arrhythmias and other cardiac abnormalities.
Blood pressure monitoring:
Blood pressure assessment is crucial in evaluating cardiovascular health, and our team utilises advanced monitoring techniques to ensure accurate measurements.
Fluoroscopy/angiography/interventional cardiology:
A state-of-the-art catheter lab allows the cardiology team to identify and correct complex cardiac conditions using minimally invasive methods.
The advanced equipment and technology at London Vet Specialists are fundamental in ensuring precise diagnosis and effective treatment of cardiac conditions, enhancing the well-being of our patients.
At London Vet Specialists, we provide veterinary professionals with unparalleled cardiology services, supported by advanced diagnostic investigations, a highly skilled cardiology team, and state-of-the-art equipment, all aimed at ensuring the well-being of our patients.
