Dyspnea is a common reason for cats to present to the hospital on an emergency basis. There are numerous possible etiologies for dyspnea and the diagnostic workup can often prove challenging.

These patients are frequently in critical condition on arrival with severe impairment of their breathing, adding urgency to the identification and correction of the underlying cause. This lecture will review the most common feline respiratory emergencies as well as their pathophysiology, diagnostic workup, and initial approach to stabilisation and treatment.
