Sofia graduated from the University Lusófona in Portugal in 2016. Prior to graduation, she completed an externship at the University of Tennessee (USA) and was awarded a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine after presenting a thesis on urokinase-type plasminogen activator in canine oncology patients. She then spent three years working in a first-opinion hospital in Lisbon before moving to the UK in 2020, to complete a rotating internship followed by a specific Oncology internship at North Downs Specialist Referrals (NDSR) in Surrey. She worked at NDSR for a total of five years, where she also completed a residency in Oncology, gaining extensive experience in managing complex oncology cases and exploring innovative treatment modalities. Sofia joined LVS in 2025, launching our Oncology service.
In her role, Sofia is responsible for providing care to oncology patients, including diagnosing and treating cancer in pets, developing tailored treatment plans, supporting pet owners through what can be a challenging journey, and ensuring the best possible quality of life for her patients. Sofia is currently completing a PhD about canine Soft Tissue Sarcomas and Electrochemotherapy.
In her spare time, Sofia loves spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and discovering new places. She has a lovely cat named Clooney, who was, of course, named after his good looks.
